Whales and Dolphins

The Azores are one of the best places in the world for whale watching. May be seen around the archipelago, about 25 species, including resident and migratory.

Among the most common species is the Sperm Whale sighting (Physeter macrocephalus), with dimensions that can reach 18m in length and over 40 tons of weight.

We also often find other whales like the Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus), Common Whale (Balaenoptera physalius), some species of sharks, turtles, and several species of dolphins, such as the Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis), the Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) , Atlantic Spotted Dolphin (Stenella frontalis) and other marine animals.
